Women are Reclaiming their Power. What This Means for…

As the list of men in powerful positions accused of sexual misconduct continues to grow day by day since the Harvey Weinstein revelations, I believe it is now safe to say that we have reached a cultural tipping point. Women are reclaiming their voice. Women are reclaiming their power.

As this collective movement of empowerment unfolds before our eyes, many women have been holding space for this moment to emerge for some time. It began with the first wave of feminists, continued with the feminist movement of the 60s and 70s till present, including the Women’s March on January 21st, 2017, which felt like a global response to the fact America had just elected a president who was a known sexual predator. Most recently, the power of the #MeToo campaign feels like the culmination of an on-going movement of women claiming the right to own their bodies, their dignity and their equal place in society, paved by the bold women who have fought so hard for this moment to occur. Those of us working in the women’s empowerment space in recent years have held an instinctive knowing that when the flood gates erupted, there would be no turning back.
